H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Vaccine
It seems that this is the only topic we have been posting lately and it has been a few days since the last post. We are hopeful to get back to parenting and helpful topics soon. Thank you to everyone for their continued patience during this time.
First, we would like to provide information related to the seasonal flu vaccine. At this time, we have received the remainder of our shipment of seasonal flu injectable vaccine for children 3 years and up. We continue to have seasonal flu vaccine for under 3. We no longer have the seasonal nasal spray available. If you are interested in receiving the seasonal flu vaccine for your child that is 3 years and up, it is important to schedule at this time as we cannot guarantee supply beyond the next two weeks.
In light of the new shipment of H1N1 vaccine received, we would like to announce the following (please read this before calling):
1. We are now scheduling for the second dose of the H1N1 vaccine. A second dose is recommended for all children 9 years and younger. At the time of the first dose, it was unclear as to when or if the second dose would be available. Due to the continued supply we are receiving, we are able to schedule these at this time.
2. If you received your first dose at another location such as a public health department you will need the date of the first dose. We will schedule the second dose no earlier than 28 days from the first dose. You will also need to bring the documentation with you at the time of the appointment.
3. We currently have a very limited number of thimerosal free injectable vaccine for children 6 month to 35 months and 4 years and older. The physicians continue to maintain that the thimerosal levels contained in vaccine is not harmful however if you choose to schedule these appointments, we are able to do this on a limited basis.
4. If you are a mother of a patient at Bayshore Pediatrics, currently pregnant and unable to obtain the vaccine elsewhere, we are able to schedule that for you at this time. Please note that you must have a letter or prescription from your OB physician stating that it is acceptable for you to receive the thimerosal containing H1N1 vaccine at the time of your appointment. This must be in writing, phone calls or verbal approval from your OB physician will not be accepted.
Please note that we are not able to set aside or save any doses (first or second, seasonal or H1N1) due to the continued demand and number of patients we are vaccinating at this time.
