Be a Hero
I was watching an old repeat of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition this week. I love the show. I always end up crying at the end when the family sees their new home. Plus, Ty (the carpenter) is cute to look at. Anyway, the episode I watched involved a family whose daughter had a serious blood disorder. Her immune system was weak, and she required weekly blood transfusions to stay alive. It was intense to see what this family, and especially this little girl, had to endure to live. At the end of the show, the cast talked about blood donation, and how it can save a life. I completely agree. And hopefully, I can motivate one or two people to donate blood this next week. More »

Mom did know best
My family went out of town this last weekend, and while packing for the trip, I smiled at what I had laid out as “necessities” to pack. In my pile of mom-must-haves were a tube of antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone 1% cream and A+D ointment. Medicine and parenting has definitely changed over the years, but some things hold fast. More »

Simple isn’t always easy
I was thinking about the phrase “Simple isn’t always easy” today. My husband said it to me the other night. (Before you think he is a great philosopher, I think he got the line from a Star Wars TV show.) I have been thinking about it in relation to my New Year’s resolutions. Any one else make a resolution or two? Well for me, simple goals are not always easy. More »

Another (great) talk about the H1N1 vaccine
My husband, a NPR (National Public Radio) junkie, heard a discussion regarding the H1N1 vaccine today. I read and listened to the broadcast on the NPR website tonight. I think it is a great review and question/answer summary about the vaccine. It is very consistent with the message from Bayshore Pediatrics; it’s nice to hear it again from an outside source. Below is the link to the site:

Continue to check the website and blog for information about distribution of the vaccine. Hopefully, we will have it available to everyone soon.
With a little luck (and good hand washing), we’ll get through this winter without too much illness.
