Those pesty mosquitoes

Well, it is official, summer has hit Wisconsin.  Summer in Wisconsin brings mosquitoes, lots of them.  Already this morning- in less then an hour, I have seen three kids with mosquito bites.  For some reason those bugs love the toddlers and early school age kids.  They usually tend to leave the infants alone. Summer is here, now it’s too warm!

I guess we can file this in the “be careful what you wish for” category.  Everyone wants to be outside during the summer, but heat advisories need to be taken as seriously as the dreaded cold and wind chill advisories.  More »

Summer at camp

We finally did it.  We made it to summer.  Even if the thermostat doesn’t always say it, the calendar does.  With the start of summer comes summer camp.  Each year, kids as young as 7 or 8 years old head off on their own for overnight camp.  There are a variety of different overnight camps from sports camps, to music camps to theater camps, and religious camps.  Some camps are co-ed and some are all girls or all boys.  The trick as a parent is to first to figure out if your child is ready and then to pick the right camp. Feel the ? of the sun – sun safety.

This past few weeks we have been out more, enjoying the fresh air and promise of summer.  Most recently we (my kids and I) were out over the weekend, the weather sunny but somewhat cool.  Because it was cool, we didn’t think about the fact that we spent all day outside.  What a surprise when I looked in the mirror and was sunburned.  More »

Spring is sprung- and so are my allergies!!
