Ah, Summer- If only there were no Bugs!
Yeah, the heat is finally on in Milwaukee! Unfortunately, that also means the bugs are out. I just returned from a vacation in Michigan where you couldn’t walk out the door at dusk or dawn without being swarmed by mosquitoes. My kids spent the weekend at the cabin (with the grandparents) and their faces were covered in bites. So, what can you do? Well, common sense things like long sleeve pants and shirts if you are going to be outside at those heavy bug times. Avoid areas with standing water like ponds and pails of water. Insect repellent is highly recommended, not only are those bugs a nuisance, they also can carry diseases like West Nile Virus or get secondarily infected. So, what kind of insect repellent should you use? More »

Smiles and Giggles
Smiles and giggles are something that brightens everyone’s day. Sometimes we forget what made us smile for the week. Recently the manager of Bayshore Pediatrics read an article that talked about a family smile box. The family had created a “smile box” and “smile cards” where members of the family could write down something that made them smile through the week and put it in the box. At the end of the week, the family would bring the smile box out at dinner and read these smiles, remembering and laughing all over again what made the family smile.
Bayshore Pediatrics is trying a version of the smile box. More »

Summer Fun
In one hour I can officially say that all of my kids are finally on vacation. I think I started to hear a little bit- oh great what are we going to do now. Some of my friends asked me, what are you going to do to keep your kids busy all summer. This comment bothered me a little. We are so scheduled during the school year with school, homework, and activities, that it is good to have some downtime. Children today don’t always know how to entertain themselves. We have not helped them by always having something to do. Summer is a great time for them to learn this. And you know what, it is ok to be bored sometime. Kids and teens do not need constant entertaining.
When I told my son it’s time for him to think what he can do, he sat down More »

Do you have creativity in your house? Art contest.
We at Bayshore have been looking at a few walls and thinking “what should we do? They are so boring. ” We have an idea and that is where your children come in. We are having an ongoing art contest and asking our patients to help us decorate the walls in our clinic. We would like to display creative art of our patients.
See our website for “rules and regulations”, actually guidelines, and entry form. We love to see the kids drawings – they always make us smile, maybe they can make others smile too.
